Introducing the Team- Part 1
Rachael is the Service Manager for the ‘Here to Help’ Project. Before working at SJOG, she was a secondary school teacher specialising in SEND. Alongside her role as Service Manager, she is completing a MSc in Psychology where she is researching how workplaces can better support autistic employees.
What do you do day-to-day?
Set up meetings with external organisations and partners to build connections around the Tees Valley region; use my teaching skills to deliver workshops and training; create resources for the platform.
What do you like most about your job?
I enjoy being able to help autistic individuals and those who support them. I like working collaboratively with autistic individuals to ensure we provide the best possible support.
Why do you think the ‘Here to Help’ project is important?
Although the prevalence rates of autism and suicidality are well known, there is not much available around practical support for people affected. I think this project could make a real difference to so many people in the region!
What are your top 3 skills?
I enjoy meeting new people and networking; I am good at reading and research, and I am creative.
What do you do when you’re not working?
When I’m not working, I love going to the theatre to watch musicals. I also am a massive bookworm and love anything which involves cake or crafting (preferably both).
What is an interesting fact about you?
I went to primary school in Texas, USA but you wouldn’t be able to tell by my Teesside accent!
